The International Day of Families is celebrated annually on May 15. This observance was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993 and is intended to highlight the importance of the family as the fundamental unit of society.
The aim of the day is to draw the attention of the public and authorities to the challenges that families face around the world: poverty, violence, inequality, and lack of access to education and healthcare.
Each year, the International Day of Families is dedicated to a new and relevant theme. The theme for 2025 is “Family-oriented programs for sustainable development.”
